Sorry, but downloading is forbidden on this website. He is someone people do not want to mess around with. What he says goes. Even the other gangs in the slums.

His reign was over. This shows that the future of Favela will be filled with violence, and will only get worse in the future. Since the runts grew up in this society, they never really had a chance to avoid this lifestyle. Personally I have sympathy for the runts because they have to rob and steal in order to survive. The runts were introduced to killing, drugs, and stealing. Therefore they had no choice but to follow this path. In the typical gangster movies, people are rich and cheating the rich.

They are not in a situation of poverty or struggle. They normally come from wealthy families and big cities. Whereas in City of God they are stuck in the slums and the only way to get out is violence. The only way to be rich is to drug deal. When Antunes is killed, Knockout Ned sets his killers houses on fire and seeks for revenge; this causes the gang war to get bigger and more personal. Antunes was also involved in the warfare at the beginning, and therefore Knockout Ned had more reason to be involved.

Benny was smart, kind, spontaneous, and a leader. He always listened and did the right thing. He was the peace keeper between all the gangs.

This other-worldly concern will then free them from the tyranny of the present and they have something to look forward to in the future. Up to a certain degree, what he advocates is theocracy where God, himself, through the scriptures, is leading the city of God.

The big question would be concerned about the accuracy of the discerned will of God. What about if the human leaders of the City claim to know the will of God but their decisions do not resemble any discernible Christian virtue, then there would also be discord and disorder. This means then that there is an overlap between the Earthly City and the City of God, an overlap that cannot be ignore or explained away by the theology of St.

Augustine called for the balance between contemplation about God and action in the real world. The City of God that he envisioned is in heaven—in an ideal state. Plato, however, would say that man is not bound to be loyal to any earthly society. But he would very well agree that the City of God is the ideal society that could be built by citizens. They might never be able to establish it but at least, they can always look to it as their ideal city. Aristotle, on the other hand, would say that the abstract idea of the City of God will not be as important as what the citizens do in the here and now.

He would probably argue that the earthly society with the emphasis on human rationality and capacity to discover things would be a better society than the City of God, which is based on an abstract concept. Organizing a society according to a pattern established by Augustine is a very difficult proposition.

However, his discussion on virtues, the highest good and the objective of each city is worth looking at. In the twenty-first century postmodern world, the concept of an abstract City of God is very difficult to grasp. Yet, with the description of the City of God, it is something desirable.

It is something that people are hoping and dreaming for. If people would become virtuous and good, then such vision of a city could be attained. And if everybody would seek the will of God in their own lives and in their communities, then perhaps the world could move closer to becoming the City of God—peaceful, orderly and happy.

University of California Press. Classics of Moral and Political Theory. The question of God's existence has been debated through the history of man, with every philosopher from Socrates to Immanuel Kant weighing in on the debate.

So great has this topic become that numerous proofs have been invented and utilized to prove or disprove God's existence. Yet no answer still has been reached, leaving me to wonder if any answer at all is possible. This essay is the story of my life, in a way.

St Augustine's Theodicy In the beginning, God created a wholly good creation that was mutable meaning that it had the potential to change.
